Classic Video Game Dynasties

It’s amazing to think about the fact that many of us have grown up with video game franchises that are still around and churning out new games.

I thought I’d take a few moments to review some of the finest series of games that we’ve seen over the course of the last 25 years since the emergence of Nintendo. These games may extend across multiple platforms, of they may be specific to just one.

Many people would believe that Mario is the most recognizable video game figure in the world. Being that Nintendo’s Mario Brothers series was one of the biggest early successes out there, I would tend to agree.

What started out as Super Mario Brothers has blossomed into a mega sensation, almost as big as Mickey Mouse was back in the age of cartoons. Between Mario Kart, the Smash series, and so many others, it’s clear that the reach of this concept has broadened beyond anyone’s imagination.

If you’re a football fan, there’s little doubt in my mind that you’ve played or owned John Madden football at some point in time. This game made its debut on the Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo in the early 90s, and it remains the most popular football game two decades later.

Amazingly, this game continues to improve with each release and the sports world simply couldn’t imagine a year gone by without a new Madden release. Even his name has simply become synonymous with the video game.

If you like action and adventure games, you’ve likely enjoyed the Grand Theft Auto franchise at some point in time. This is adult gaming at its finest, as sex, violence, and mischief rule a new city in each release.

People become addicted to this game, and it’s so detailed that it could literally have you discovering new elements months after owning it. Each release of a new version is as big as a movie release, which says enough in and of itself.
